Intense cold waves continue to engulf North India

Intense cold wave continues to clench north India as temperatures  fell at several places in the region.In national capital Delhi, the minimum temperature further dropped to 3.4 degrees Celsius, four cuts below the season's average. The MeT Department stated it was the coldest December day in the national capital since 2014. The maximum temperature was recorded at 21.3 degrees Celsius, a  drop above the normal.

The MeT has predicted clear skies along with the possibility of dense fog tomorrow morning and haze and smoke after that.In Punjab and Haryana, capital Chandigarh the season's coldest night so far at 3.4 degrees Celsius recorded which are two notches below to the normal. Adampur in Punjab was the coldest place in the two states with a low of 0.4 degrees Celsius. The officials said cold wave conditions are expected to continue in the two states over the next few days.

 

In hilly state Himachal Pradesh, biting cold is being experienced from corner to corner  of the state in spite of clear and sunny weather during the day. Tourist places like Manali, Rohtang and Kalpa also received fresh snowfall.

Due to bad weather, Kullu district administration has stated tourists and locals not to venture to higher reaches of the district. As per weather department, cold wave is expected to prevail at an isolated place in the state during next 24 hours.

The MeT office stated shallow to moderate fog is expected to occur at a few places over the state.
