In the olden days, the king and Maharaja often dug wells in different places in their state, so that there is no shortage of water. There are thousands of wells in India, which are hundreds of years old and some are even thousands of years old. Today we are going to tell you about one such well, whose story of making is quite interesting. This well is called 'Queen's stepwell'. Actually, Bawdi means step-well. 'Rani ki vav' is more than 900 years old. In 2014, UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site.

Let us know that this famous stepwell located in Patan of Gujarat is also called Rani ki Vav. It is said that Rani's Vav (stepwell) was built in 1063 AD in memory of King Bhimdev I of Solanki dynasty by his wife Rani Udayamati. Rani Udayamati was the daughter of Chudasama ruler Rakhengar of Junagadh. This wav is 64 meters long, 20 meters wide and 27 meters deep. It is the most unique vav of its kind in India. Many artworks and sculptures have been carved on its walls and pillars. Most of these carvings are dedicated to Lord Vishnu in various forms of incarnations like Lord Rama, Vamana, Narasimha, Mahishasuramardini, Kalki etc.

Actually, this seven-storey Vav is evidence of Maru-Gurjar architectural style. It was buried in Gad after the disappearance of the Saraswati river for nearly seven centuries. It was rediscovered by the Archaeological Department of India and got cleaned. Now a large number of people also come here to roam. They also say that there is also a small gate under this famous step-step step, inside which there is a tunnel of about 30 km long. This tunnel opens by going to Siddhpur of Patan. It is believed that earlier this intelligence tunnel was used by the king and his family in war or any difficult situation. At present, this tunnel is closed due to stones and mud.
