The International Baccalaureate has officially made the announcement regarding the cancellation of Class 12 examination. The International Baccalaureate (IB) Board has reportedly decided to follow the Non-exam route in India for the Diploma Programme. The update has come a few hours ago after Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal announced the cancellation of the CBSE class 10 examinations and the postponement of Class 12 exams.
In India, the examinations are getting cancelled or postponed following a surge in COVID-19 cases. There are 185 schools in India that work on the IB's curriculum and students who seek admission in schools abroad or those, whose parents are mostly transferred to foreign countries, usually opt for exams under this board. Now, the board has decided to follow the non-examination route in India for the diploma programme, the career-related programme and the alternative task for the middle years programme. Also in IB’s official statement, it was said that “The IB has informed schools of our decision not to hold examinations in India due to rising cases of COVID-19, and following ongoing conversations with our schools, associations and education boards. We intend that the results of students in India should be awarded using coursework marks and predicted grades for the May 2021 session, as described in the awarding model outlined in February.”
The IB’s curriculum came after the central government cancelled Class 10 exams and the postponement of Class 12 exams conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education amid the surge of corona cases in the nation in a high-level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
