IIT Roorkee: A 23-year-old M. Tech Student of the  IIT Roorkee dies at quarantine centre of institute due to Covid-19, after he tested negative for the infection, prompting the authorities to launch a magisterial probe.

Reportedly, the student was at the centre from April 11th after coming in primary contact of another student who had tested positive for covid and cause of death can be ascertained in the post-mortem, the news agency reported, quoting IIT Roorkee media cell in charge.

Earlier this Week, IIT Roorkee had reported 90 students had tested positive for COVID-19 at IIT over the previous days and the Haridwar District Health Department had sealed five hostels - Coral, Kasturba, Sarojini, Govind Bhawan and Vigyan Kunj - and declared them as containment zones.IIT Roorkee has about 3,000 students and of which around 1,200 students live in these five hostels.

Garhwal Division Commissioner Ravinath Raman said the RT-PCR test report of the IIT student had come out negative recently. A magisterial inquiry will be launched into the incident to find out the cause of his death, he said.
