Visakhapatnam: 500 Navy personnel, defense civilians and their families carried out coastal clean-up operations on the sea fronts following the COVID-19 protocols. This was the occasion of the 36th International Coastal Cleanup Day campaign for the tenth consecutive year on Saturday by the Eastern Naval Command (ENC). The aim of the Cleanliness Day campaign was to create awareness among the people to inculcate the habit of keeping the beaches clean, protecting the environment and respecting the beaches.

Marking the occasion, ENC carried out coastal clean-up at Yarda Beach, Bhimili Beach and other sea fronts within the premises of Naval Units at Visakhapatnam. International Coastal Cleanup began more than 30 years ago when communities came together with a common goal of collecting and documenting the litter on their beach.

Every year, on the third Saturday of September, the international coastal cleanup community encourages people around the world to remove garbage and debris from beaches, waterways and other water bodies, identify sources of litter, change behaviors that cause pollution, and enhance encourages to.
