International Women's Day began more than 100 years ago. It was also suggested by a woman named Clara Jetkin. Clara Yun was a Marxist thinker and activist, but she continued to be active even on the question of women's rights. In 1910, an international conference of working women was held in Copenhagen. It was in this conference that for the first time she suggested to celebrate International Women's Day. About 100 women from 17 countries were present at that conference. They all supported Clara's suggestion.

The first year was in 1911 when International Women's Day was celebrated in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. But technically this year we are celebrating 109th International Women's Day. The official recognition of Women's Day was given in 1975 when the United Nations began celebrating it annually with a theme. The first theme of International Women's Day was 'Celebrating the Past, Planning for the Future'.

Due to the pressure of the women's strike, the emperor Nicholas was forced to step down. As a result of this incident, the interim government gave the local women the right to vote. At that time, the Julian calendar was used in Russia. The day the women started this strike was on 28 February. In the Gregorian calendar, this day was 8 March and after that International Women's Day began to be celebrated on 8 March.
