On Sunday on International Yoga Day, all BJP MPs, MLAs, state officials and activists performed yoga in their homes with family members. There was already a call in this regard from the central leadership of the party. People also followed social distance for the prevention of Covid-19. From Garhwal to Kumaon people in the state gave the message of staying healthy by doing yoga at their home. Minister Madan Kaushik did yoga with his family at his Haridwar residence.
On International Yoga Day, the soldiers also performed yoga at a height of 14000 feet in the border area adjoining the Chamoli district. The soldiers of Auli Indian Institute of Mountaineering and Skiing ITBP performed yoga at Glacier Point Vasudhara. These days the temperature of Vasudhara is minus zero degree. But even after this, the soldiers did various yoga exercises. Uttarakhand has made an international identity in yoga. The city of pilgrimage is known as Rishikesh Yoga Capital. But like other departments in the state government system, there is no structure for yoga. Now the Department of AYUSH is preparing a proposal to create a separate structure of Yoga on the lines of Ayurveda, Unani and Homeopathic medicine.
Uttarakhand got the opportunity to host the fourth International Yoga Day on 21 June 2018 for the first time. This gave Uttarakhand an international recognition. Yoga Day is celebrated every year in the state in collaboration with the Department of AYUSH and Tourism. But there is no separate structure in the government system to promote yoga. Yoga is also a part of Ayush treatment. Additional Secretary and Director Ayurveda Anand Swaroop say that under the Department of AYUSH, so far, there is a framework for Ayurveda, Unani and Homeopathic medicine. A proposal to create a separate framework for yoga is being prepared along the same lines.
