June 21st: International Yoga Day and Longest Day on the Earth

New Delhi: Yoga is the ancient spiritual, mental, and physical exercise that is practiced and originated in India. Yoga word is derived from the Sanskrit word that is Yug which means unite. Yoga is an exercise that helps us to meditate and relax. Yoga helps in keeping physical and mental health stable. Yoga has four traditional paths that are: Bhakti (devotion), Karma (action), Jnana (knowledge), and Raja (self-discipline).  

Many people are in depression and have anxiety they are suggested to do yoga as it relaxes the mind of the person. Yoga helps to fight many diseases like Diabetes, hypertension, obesity, etc.

Yoga is practiced by performing various asanas. Asana is derived from the Sanskrit word which means posture. There are many asanas performed in yoga-like:

Bhujangasana – is known as the cobra pose. It helps to heal the body and spirituality.

Vajrasna – is known as diamond posed.  Improves our bowel movements and relieves constipation.

Surya Namaskar – it is a sun salutation which means sun greeting derived from a Sanskrit word. It is a full-body workout. It includes 12 different poses. A few are these  Pranamasana (prayer pose),hastauttanasana (raised arm pose),hastapadasana (standing forward bend), etc.

21st June is also known as the international yoga day but not is also said that the 21st June is considered as the longest day and night is shortened on the earth. 21st June is also known as the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere. The sun reaches the highest point in the sky and radiates its rays for an extended duration. The sun is directly above the tropic of cancer. The meteorologist says that it is the beginning of the summer.

The solstice reaches the northernmost point of its journey, it stops and starts again which moves back to the south. The sun seems to stand still. The solstice is the Latin word which means Sol means sun and sister means standing still.

It is considered that the sun is closest to the earth but it is the opposite of what happens. The earth is farthest from the sun.
