The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has threatened to drop 'Salman Khan' as goodwill ambassador of the Indian contingent for the Rio Olympics if an immediate public apology for his irresponsible rape comment doesn't come through.

Bollywood Sultan star's quoted as saying in an interview before his departure for International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) that "when I used to walk out of the ring after the shoot, I used to feel like a raped woman. I couldn't walk straight".

On wednesday, Rakesh Gupta, IOA's joint secretary and India's chef-de-mission for Rio Games, took serious note of his insensitive comment and said that "his comments as goodwill ambassador would send wrong message to all the sportspersons in the country".

According to another senior IOA official, Salman's name has already been dropped from the list of invitees who would be present during the Indian contingent's send-off ceremony in the third week of July.

An explanation and public apology from Salman has been demanded by the National Commission for Women (NCW) within seven days, while Maharashtra State Commission for Women has summoned the film star to appear before it on June 29 at 2 pm.
