After fifty one days of intense battle we finally have the winners of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 - Sunrisers Hyderabad. Just like in 2009, the team from Hyderabad had the better of the team from Bengaluru in the summit clash. Sunrisers' eight-run victory on Sunday (May 29) happened to the second lowest in terms of margin of runs in an IPL final after the six-run difference between the finalists in 2009.
Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers keep a rampaging RCB in check to win IPL final by 8 runs and clinch first title.
At 140 for 1, RCB were within range of the 209-run target before Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers were out in a span of seven balls as SRH clawed their way back.
The two best captains of the tournament went head-to-head and continued their excellent run with the bat, although Virat Kohli's efforts were overshadowed by David Warner.
Kohli said, "Definitely proud of the way we played this season. This was for people of Bengaluru. They have supported in worst of seasons. We would have been loved to be on other side of result. We went for a few but wicket was nice. Me and AB getting close to each other was a big blow. Had I stayed with AB a little longer, it would have been different".
"We were walking around thanking the crowd and Vettori mentioned to me, 'We got 200 and we lost'. So that felt a bit weird that we were short by eight runs," said Kohli at the presentation ceremony.
