Tehran: According to Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, the best method to solve regional problems is to devise systems appropriate to regional characteristics with the participation of all regional countries. According to Iran's state television, Shamkhani cited terrorism, foreign military invasion, and migration as important security concerns in the region.
"The only way out of these circumstances is to cease transregional intervention, particularly by the United States," he said in a meeting with his Russian counterpart Nikolai Patrushev on the sidelines of a regional security dialogue on Afghanistan in India. He added on Thursday that increasing regional cooperation to develop indigenous answers to problems would be beneficial in this sense. According to the Xinhua news agency, he also called for further cooperation between Iran and Russia, as well as the expansion of comprehensive bilateral relations, notably in the areas of security and counter-terrorism.
In terms of Afghanistan's security situation, Shamkhani reaffirmed Iran's position, saying that "given the ethnic and religious composition of Afghan society, the answer to the dilemma in this nation is the continuation of intra-Afghan discussion and the development of an inclusive administration." Patrushev, for one, commended ongoing security discussions and dialogues among regional countries, adding that shared worries about security threats have brought these countries closer together.
