Tehran: Iran's Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, said that normalising trade relations with Tehran was one of the commitments made by its counterparts in the 2015 nuclear agreement, and that the obligation's fulfilment must be discussed in the Vienna talks. In a phone call with his British counterpart Elizabeth Truss, Amir Abdollahian reportedly made the remarks.
The diplomats discussed bilateral issues, regional issues, and the upcoming Vienna talks aimed at reviving the Iranian nuclear agreement, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, according to an official briefing released by the Iranian Foreign Ministry (JCPOA).
Since former President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the deal and reimposed sanctions on Iran, Amir Abdollahian has emphasised the US's role in bringing the deal to its current state. He went on to say that "some parties" outside of Washington have contributed to the current situation through their "irresponsibility and silence" in response to Washington's actions. Amir Abdollahian stressed the importance of London playing a "more active role" in increasing trade volume and facilitating financial relations between Iran and the UK.
