To prevent the spread of the Covid-19 strain of Omicron, Iran has decided to restrict its land borders with neighbouring nations for 15 days. Iran's land borders with Turkey, Iraq, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, and Armenia would be blocked for half a month starting Saturday, according to Ruhollah Latifi, a spokesman for Iran's Customs.

Iran's Health Ministry reported 1,121 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday, bringing the total number of infections in the nation to 6,182,905. According to the government, the epidemic has claimed 42 lives in the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 131,348.

According to the report, 6,024,211 people have recovered or been discharged from hospitals across the country, while 2,781 remain in intensive care units. By Saturday, 59,464,524 Iranians had gotten their initial vaccine doses, 51,096,388 had had their second jabs, and 5,478,443 had received their third booster shots across the country.

So far, a total of 41,388,312 tests have been performed across the country. On December 19, Iran detected the first case of Omicron in a tourist returning from the United Arab Emirates.
