Tehran: Iran's UN envoy, Amir Saeid Iravani, strongly refuted any involvement of Iran in actions or attacks against US military forces, as reported by the semi-official Tasnim news agency on Tuesday.

The United States, however, has attributed a series of attacks in Middle Eastern waters to Yemen's Iran-allied Houthi group since the outbreak of hostilities between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas on October 7. In a briefing with reporters on Monday, US national security adviser Jake Sullivan emphasized that Washington has "every reason to believe that these attacks, while they were launched by the Houthis in Yemen, are fully enabled by Iran."

In the most recent incidents on Sunday, three commercial vessels came under attack in international waters in the southern Red Sea. The Houthis claimed responsibility for launching drone and missile attacks against what they identified as two Israeli vessels in the area.

The USS Carney, a US Navy destroyer, intervened on Sunday, shooting down three drones as it responded to distress calls from the commercial vessels. According to the US military, the three vessels targeted were connected to 14 separate nations.

These developments underscore the complex dynamics and tensions in the region, with Iran denying involvement while the US attributes the attacks to Iranian-enabled actions by the Houthi group in Yemen.
