TEHRAN: Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has ruled out a recent claim of the United States that Iran is providing Russia with drones for use in Ukraine as "baseless" and politically motivated.
According to a press release on the website of the foreign ministry, Amir-Abdollahian made the comments on Friday during a phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Kuleba, after US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said on Monday that "information" suggests Iran is getting ready to give Russia "up to several hundred" drones, including ones with weapons capability.
The top Iranian diplomat claimed that these accusations were made to "achieve specific political goals and ends" and were made soon before US Vice President Joe Biden's current Middle East tour.
"Just as we said at the beginning of the Ukrainian crisis, we are opposed to war in Afghanistan, Yemen, Palestine and also Ukraine," Amir-Abdollahian told Kuleba.
