Moscow: Brig. Gen. Abolfazl Shekarchi, a senior military spokesman for Iran, criticised statements made by US Vice President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid that Washington and Jerusalem could use force against Iran, describing them as psychological warfare and delusion, according to the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

On Thursday, Biden and Lapid vowed to use all available means, including force, to stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
The news source quotes Shekarchi as saying that both the US and Israel have a long history of failures in the Middle East and that as a result, they should take into account the current circumstances there rather than threaten Iran.

Iran and the P5+1 group, which consists of the US, China, France, Russia, the UK, Germany, and the EU, signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as the Iran Nuclear Deal, in 2015. In exchange for sanctions relief, including the lifting of an arms embargo five years after the deal was made, Tehran was required to significantly reduce the size of its uranium reserves and scale back its nuclear programme.

Iran retaliated to the US president's unilateral withdrawal from the JCPOA and re-imposition of sanctions in 2018 by gradually abandoning its nuclear commitments.
