TEHRAN: According to a statement released by the local Foreign Ministry on Monday, the US has not participated constructively in the latest round of discussions in Doha intended to revive the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal.
According to the statement, French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian spoke over the phone about the comments.
Though describing the discussions on June 29-30 in Doha as positive, Amir-Abdollahian said that "we need wait and watch how the American side would strive to use the chance of diplomacy."
He stated, "We feel that restating prior opinions should not take the place of a political initiative. Iran has consistently put out its views and ideas in the negotiations, said Amir-Abdollahian, adding that Iran is serious about establishing a "good and enduring" accord.
Indirect negotiations between Iran and the US, which lasted two days and took place in the capital of Qatar, did not resolve any outstanding issues, despite efforts on a global scale to revive the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, the official name for the nuclear accord (JCPOA).
Iran agreed to limit its nuclear programme in exchange for the lifting of sanctions when it signed the JCPOA with the world's major nations in July 2015.
