Iran scales up 21,996 new Covid-19 cases, New death toll 44

TEHRAN – Iran's Health Ministry has reported 21,996 new Covid-19 cases every day, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 6,344,179. The pandemic has also claimed 44 lives in the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll in the country to 132,424, according to the ministry, as reported by the state media.

According to the ministry, a total of 6,098,675 people have recovered from the sickness or been discharged from hospitals across the country, with 1,404 still in intensive care units.

By Sunday, 60,699,381 Iranians had received their first Covid-19 vaccine doses, 54,040,089 had received their second doses, and 16,877,782 had received their third booster doses. A total of 44,694,344 tests have been performed across the country so far.

Gholamreza Marhaba, a spokesman for the Iranian parliament's Economic Commission, informed the official news agency IRNA on Sunday that 30 MPs had tested positive for the Covid-19 Omicron variant. Bahram Einollahi, Iran's health minister, has warned against a fresh wave of Omicron-led coronavirus sweeping the country.
