On Wednesday, United Nations chief Antonio Guterres has expressed condolences on the Ukrainian plane crash in Tehran, the capital of Iran. Shortly after taking off from Tehran, the aircraft Boeing 737 crashed. 176 passengers, including nine crew members, were killed. Ukraine International Airlines took off from Imam Khomeini International Airport at 6:10 am. This plane was going to Kiev, the capital of Ukraine.

A statement issued by Guterres spokesman Stephen Dujaric said that Guterres expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and all the countries whose citizens lost their lives in the tragedy. The statement said that the Secretary-General was deeply saddened by the crash of the Ukrainian plane near Tehran.
