The Iranian military recently shared an animated video portraying the assassination of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This release followed the death of a key Iranian military figure, Sayyed Razi Mousavi, who served as a senior advisor for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Syria. Mousavi was killed in an airstrike near Damascus, as reported by a state-run Iranian news outlet on Monday, December 25. Reuters also verified this report.

Mousavi held a pivotal role in coordinating Iran's military partnership with Syria. This region has seen ongoing airstrikes conducted by Israel, which shares a border with Syria to the north and claims to target Iran-associated entities.

The IRGC attributed Mousavi's death to an Israeli airstrike, but the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) declined to comment directly on the incident. IDF spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari refrained from addressing foreign reports related to the Middle East, emphasizing the Israeli military's commitment to safeguarding the nation's security interests.

The controversial animated video depicts Netanyahu's assassination, portraying his death resulting from a time bomb placed beneath his desk.

Following Mousavi's death, Iran issued a stern warning to Israel. The IRGC declared that "the usurper and savage Zionist regime will pay for this crime." Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi echoed this sentiment, affirming that Israel would "certainly pay the price" for Mousavi's demise, characterizing it as a reflection of Israel's frustration and weakness in the region.

Sources within Iran indicated that Mousavi held a close relationship with Gen. Qassim Soleimani, head of Iran's elite Quds Force, who was killed in a US drone strike in Iraq in January 2020. Mousavi, one of the longest-serving IRGC advisors in Syria, reportedly facilitated the military collaboration between Iran and Syria, residing in Syria for nearly three decades. He maintained an office within the Syrian Defense Ministry.
