Kyiv: A sanctions package against Russia's ally Iran was approved by Kyiv's parliament on Monday. Iran is accused of sending weapons to Moscow during its more than a year-long invasion of Ukraine.

One day after Ukraine claimed that Russia had used Iranian Shahed drones in the largest UAV attack on the capital since the start of the invasion, parliament approved the package.

The Ukrainian parliament stated on its website that the resolution "synchronises Ukrainian sanctions with the actions of the entire civilised world on the path to the complete isolation of Iran."

A ban on "military and dual-use goods" with Iran is part of the package, along with the "suspension of economic and financial obligations in favour of residents of Iran."

Zelensky still needs to sign it into law, but that is only a formality since the Ukrainian president introduced the legislation himself.
Last week, Zelensky made a direct appeal to Iranians, posing the question, "Why do you want to be accomplices in Russian terror?"

Mykhaylo Podolyak, his adviser, claimed on Sunday that Kyiv had been struck by numerous Shahed drones and referred to Iran as a "terrorist regime."

Podolyak wrote on Twitter that Tehran has "become a key ally of Moscow in this war, providing it with weapons for attacks on civilian cities."
Tehran has retaliated, claiming that Zelensky was attempting to secure the military and financial support of the West.
