Tehran: In response to widespread dissatisfaction with the government, Iran's parliament voted on Sunday to oust the nation's minister of industries for alleged mismanagement.
Reza Fatemi Amin was dismissed by 162 of the 272 lawmakers present, according to Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf. There are 290 seats in the room.
A prior impeachment attempt against Fatemi Amin failed in 2022. Following discussion among lawmakers and government representatives who questioned the minister, a decision was made.

Ebrahim Raisi, the president of Iran, defended Fatemi Amin by claiming that all of the minister's portfolio's related fields had experienced growth. He urged the legislature to bring back the minister. The point is that it's critical for the ministry to maintain stability, he said.
The minister's detractors claimed he mismanaged his business ventures in trade, mining, and industry due to the rapidly rising costs of goods.

In the less than two years since Raisi took office, his cabinet has undergone six changes, the most recent being the impeachment. The agriculture minister and the director of planning and budget were both replaced by Raisi in March.
After the April teacher pay delay, Raisi fired the education minister. After learning that the minister of roads had terminal cancer, Raisi took over in December. Following protests by employees and retirees over payments last year, Raisi replaced the labour minister.
