Mumbai: An affidavit has been filed in the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court in response to a petition in the irrigation scam by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, in which he has described the allegations against him as 'malicious'. The NCP leader also said in the affidavit filed last Tuesday that there is no need to hand over the present investigation to the CBI or ED. It is also being said that the Director-General of Maharashtra Anti Corruption Bureau, in an affidavit filed in the High Court in December last year, said that Pawar was involved in the alleged scam of 12 projects undertaken by Vidarbha Irrigation Development Corporation (VIDC) in the ACB investigation. No involvement was found.

According to the sources, it was alleged that Pawar, who was the chairman of VIDC and the officials of the corporation colluded with the contractors while issuing tenders for the projects, causing damage to the government exchequer. The petitioner, Atul Jagtap of Jan Manch has filed 4 PILs in the alleged scam. He filed an application in HC and demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter, whose hearing is still going on in the court and the next hearing is to be held this week.

On Tuesday, January 14, 2020, Pawar said in his reply that Jagtap himself is a contractor and he himself has been a part of different projects, his appeal to the High Court, attention should not be given. Recently, Ajit Pawar accused Jagtap of personal interests and said that his petitions are not in the public interest. Pawar said in the affidavit, 'I reject all these allegations.' He says, "I have nothing to do with corruption. As a minister and VIDC chairman, I followed the rules and discharged my duties without any fear and wrong intention."
