Prince Andrew could be facing eviction from Royal Lodge, his Windsor residence, due to mounting financial pressures and King Charles' decision to cut funding for the estate’s security. The 30-bedroom mansion, valued at £30 million, incurs substantial costs for maintenance and security, which could force the Duke of York to leave if he is unable to cover these expenses.

Royal Lodge's annual upkeep costs £400,000, with an additional £3 million spent on security each year. The burden of these expenses has put significant financial strain on Prince Andrew, who is 64 years old. The King’s decision to withdraw financial support for the estate’s security has only heightened these pressures, making it likely that the Duke will need to vacate unless he finds alternative funding.

The Crown Estate, which owns Royal Lodge, views the property as suitable for continued royal occupancy. Speculation has arisen that the eviction could be part of a larger plan. Some friends of the York family suggest that King Charles might be considering Royal Lodge as a future home for Queen Camilla, should she outlive him.

Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, who divorced in 1996 but still live separately within Royal Lodge, initially acquired the 75-year lease on the property for £1 million in 2003. Both are currently at Balmoral Castle with King Charles for the traditional summer retreat, where discussions about Royal Lodge’s future may take place.

Richard Eden, in a column, suggested that the King's motives might be questioned, noting, "The Crown Estate owns the property, and with the King having substantial funds, it seems petty to push him out over security costs alone."

As the royal family continues their summer activities at Balmoral, including grouse shooting, salmon fishing, and picnics, the future of Royal Lodge remains uncertain. The ongoing financial strain and security funding cuts will likely be a key topic of discussion during this period.
