Washington: US President Joe Biden stated on Tuesday that Israel's "indiscriminate bombing" of Gaza is causing it to lose support from around the world. According to The Times of Israel, he chastised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and coalition members for their resistance to a two-state solution.
When Biden addressed Netanyahu at a campaign event in Washington, D.C., held by former AIPAC board chair Lee Rosenberg, he described Netanyahu as "a good friend, but I think he has to change, and... this government in Israel is making it very difficult for him to move."
Reiterating a statement he made in July, Biden specifically targeted Israel's National Security Minister Ben Gvir, saying, "This is the most conservative government in Israel's history."
He bemoaned that "Ben Gvir and company and the new folks don't want anything remotely approaching a two-state solution," adding that he has known Israeli leaders for decades.
Biden stated: "They not only want to have retribution -- which they should -- for what Hamas did, but against all Palestinians... They don't want anything to do with the Palestinians."
He restated the US position that 1,200 people were slaughtered and about 240 were held captive during the terror group's horrific attack on Israel on October 7, and that Hamas does not speak for all Palestinians or all of Gaza.
Biden also criticized Palestinian leaders, though he did not say which Palestinian Authority or Hamas he was referring to. According to The Times of Israel, he stated, "The Palestinians have not been governed well at all". He saidthat there is still "opportunity to begin to unite the region," alluding to the planned rail and shipping corridor that the US unveiled in September that would connect India with the Middle East and Europe.
