Damascus: State media reported that two Syrian civilians were killed in an Israeli air strike on Tuesday. This was the fourth such attack in less than a week on government-held areas of the war-torn nation.

According to a military source cited by the state news agency SANA, "the Israeli enemy carried out an air strike at 00:15 (2115 GMT Monday) and the attack resulted in the death of two civilians."

It was noted that the attack originated from "the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting some points in the vicinity of Damascus and the southern region," and that "most" of the missiles were shot down by air defence.

Israel has conducted hundreds of airstrikes on Syrian soil over the course of the country's more than ten-year civil war, primarily focusing on Iranian-backed forces, Lebanese Hezbollah fighters, and Syrian army positions.

"An explosion heard in the vicinity of Damascus," according to earlier SANA reporting.
The same number of fatalities was reported by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which also stated that Israel had fired "barrages of missiles targeting military areas controlled by Iran-backed groups and regime air defence."

According to the report, an Israeli missile struck a regime radar in the Sweida countryside and a glass factory in the Al-Kiswah region of the countryside of Damascus, killing two civilians each.

The British-based observer with a variety of sources inside Syria had earlier claimed that the missiles also targeted an Iranian complex close to the Sayyida Zeinab area and the area around the Damascus International Airport.

At least two missiles were intercepted by Syria's air defence, according to the Observatory.
According to the monitor, an Israeli airstrike on Syrian targets on Sunday resulted in the deaths of two fighters with ties to Iran, and SANA reported the injuries of five Syrian soldiers.

After attacking the Syrian capital on Thursday and early Friday, Israel launched an early Sunday attack near the western city of Homs. On Sunday, Damascus was also shaken by a rare car bombing, though no one was hurt and no one claimed responsibility.

Israel has repeatedly stated it will not permit its arch-enemy Iran to expand its influence in the conflict-torn nation, despite the fact that it rarely comments on the strikes it conducts on Syria.

When peaceful anti-government protests were brutally put down in 2011, it ignited the Syrian war, which drew in foreign powers and jihadists from around the world.

The pre-war population of Syria has been displaced from their homes, and more than 500,000 people have been killed.
