ISRO Chief S. Somnath and Congress leader Shashi Tharoor Encourage Children in the Sacred Act of Alphabet Writing During Vidyarambham Ceremony

Marking the significance of the day, S. Somnath expressed, "This morning, I joined the celebration of Vijaya Dashmi. Vidyarambham is a cultural ritual where we revere the alphabet as if they were divine entities. We introduce young children to the world of education, ensuring they embark on their educational journey under the guidance of their 'Gurus' while paying homage to the literature."
He continued, "My presence here today is a remarkable experience. I am delighted to participate in this age-old tradition, passing on the same knowledge to the younger generation that I received from my parents and grandparents."
The 'Vidyarambham' ritual involves children writing their first letters on a bed of rice. Additionally, the mentor, using a gold ring or coin, inscribes letters on the child's tongue symbolically signifying the initiation into the realms of reading and speaking.
Shashi Tharoor also participated in a Vidyarambham ceremony at the Poojappura Saraswati Mandapam in Thiruvananthapuram, where he encouraged children to take their first steps in the world of writing. He remarked, "Vidyarambham is a special occasion. While the rest of India celebrates Dussehra Vijayadashami, in Kerala, Vijayadashami holds the significance of commencing the learning journey. It is the responsibility of the older generation to impart the skill of writing to our youth."
