Srinagar: Congress leader and former CM Ghulam Nabi Azad, who recently retired from Rajya Sabha, said that it is difficult for a young Muslim leader to dream of becoming Prime Minister. He said, "I am not talking about the near future, but a similar situation may remain for the next few decades." In an interview to a private news channel, Ghulam Nabi Azad said that it is very difficult for a young Muslim leader to have such an ambition.
Earlier in his farewell speech in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said that he is proud to be an Indian Muslim. He said, "I am among the few lucky leaders who have never been to Pakistan." He also said, "When I read the news about Pakistan, I am proud to be an Indian Muslim." Ghulam Nabi Azad, who described the ambition of a Muslim leader to become PM, had said at an event in Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in 2018 that the Hindu leaders of his own party are now reluctant to call him in the campaign.
Ghulam Nabi Azad had said that the Congress has very few Hindu candidates who want to call them for campaigning. He had said that the number of Hindu candidates calling me for campaigning has decreased sharply. He said that the reason for this is that people feel that my departure will reduce their support.
