Italian Govt to announce more economic incentives

ROME : Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi has said that he intends to announce a more economic measures aimed to reduce the impacts of the worsening economic situation caused in part by rising energy costs.

The Prime Minster said at a press conference after meeting with leaders of the country's main trade unions that he e had discussions with labour leaders about tax system adjustments, pay increases to assist offset price increases, and other economic incentives.

Announcing that he would be prepared to unveil his whole package of economic incentives on July 23, the prime minister also called for "stable structural interventions" to lessen the effects of inflation and for "the full engagement" of the nation's trade unions in the reform process. Local media viewed Draghi's meeting with labour leaders on Tuesday as an attempt to reduce the political dangers that are now present.

In recent weeks, the populist Five-Star Movement, a significant member of Draghi's government coalition, split into two different parties. Giuseppe Conte, the former prime minister and head of the Five-Star Movement, has issued a list of demands, threatening to withhold his party's support for the administration and compel an immediate vote of confidence.

Draghi stated during the news conference that it was impossible to lead while under danger of an ultimatum and he would not consent to the formation of a new government without the Five-Star Movement's involvement.

Later on Tuesday, when speaking to the Foreign Press Association, Draghi downplayed the economic issues, stating that the government's balance sheets were "extremely robust" and that despite recent obstacles, "Italy remains a powerful country."
