Italy joins list imposing traveling restrictions for Indian passengers

After many countries banned or dismissed the flights of India , Italy has also joined the list. Italy also imposed restrictions on traveling from India to avert the spread of a Covid-19 variant. The Asian nation in the second wave of corona struggles with a surge in infections.

Italy's Health Minister Roberto Speranza took it Twitter saying that he had signed an order barring foreign travellers who have been in India in the past 14 days from entering the country. Currently, India is facing a health crisis, is battling a "double mutant" strain of Covid-19. On Sunday, the country posted the world's highest single-day increase in cases for a fourth day. Whereas Italian residents will be allowed to return from India with a negative test result at their departure and one at their arrival and then have to go into quarantine, the minister said. Those already in Italy and who travelled from India in the past 14 days went undergo a swab. The health minister further said that their scientists are at work to study the new Indian variant.

In the same view of rising cases of coronavirus in India other countries in Europe like Denmark, France, Germany are also extending support. Denmark’s envoy to Delhi Freddy Svane tells WION,”We are working closely with MEA to assist India with whatever is required. That’s what friends are about”.
