New Delhi: On the demand for an early hearing on the petition filed in the Supreme Court regarding the fine of 2 crores on ITC Maurya Hotel, Chief Justice (CJI) DY Chandrachud said that he will hear the case on May 4. Let us tell you that in 2018, the National Consumer Commission imposed a fine of Rs 2 crore on ITC Maurya Hotel in 2021 for wrongly cutting the hair of a model. Against which the hotel had filed a petition in the apex court.

Following the Supreme Court's direction to the Consumer Grievance Redressal Commission to review its order, the commission has stayed its earlier order. In September 2021, the commission ordered the hotel to pay a compensation of two crore rupees to the victim model. After the decision of the commission, Hotel ITC Maurya petitioned the Supreme Court and asked to reconsider the decision of the commission. Let us tell you that model Aashna Roy went to the salon for a job interview 4 years ago. Her regular hair dresser was not there on this day, after which another dresser cut her hair. The model says that her hair was cut wrongly and she was quite shocked.

The model alleges that her hair had become dry and discolored. Along with her complaint, Roy had told the commission and the Supreme Court that on complaining about this, the staff of the salon located in the hotel resorted to abusive tone. In such a situation, her interview opportunity also went out of hand and thus she missed a very important opportunity of her life. The consumer forum had asked Hotel ITC Maurya to give compensation along with a written apology. The commission's judge RK Aggarwal and Dr. SM Kantikar ordered the hotel to pay Rs 2 crore along with 9 percent interest. After which the hotel has challenged this order in the apex court.
