Jacqueline Williams of the women's West Indies team on Wednesday became the first woman to play the role of a third umpire in a men's international cricket match. Jacqueline, 43, achieved this feat during the first T20 match between West Indies and Ireland. She will play the responsibility of the third umpire in all three matches. Jacqueline said, 'It is a great honor for me. I am grateful to the ICC for this. I want more and more women umpires to come forward in the coming days. Last month, India's GS Laxmi was the first referee to officiate in any men's match abroad.
According to media reports, retired New Zealand umpire Kathy Cross was the first female official to stand in the men's ICC tournament during the World Cricket League Division Five and Three held in Malaysia. Last month, India's GS Lakshmi became the first woman to become a referee in a men's ODI match, in the third series of the Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 in the United Arab Emirates. Earlier in May, she was also the first woman to be appointed to the ICC International Panel of Match Referee.
