PURI: This year's Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra, one of the most revered events in Odisha, will start on June 20. The grand festival is organised by the Hindu calendar. Every year, on the second day of the brilliant fortnight of the Ashadha month, a festival is held.

The day has great significance for Lord Jagannatha's followers. On this day, gorgeous chariots carry Lord Jagannatha, commonly known as the "Lord of the Universe," out of the temple. The Grand Road is used to transport the three idols to the Gundicha Temple. The idols remain there for a while before going back to the main temple.

Date and Time of the Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra in 2023: The blessed Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra will take place this year on June 20. From June 20 from 10:04 p.m. through June 21 at 7:09 p.m., the Jagannath Yatra will take place. Months in advance of the festival, preparations start.

Following the installation of the three deities atop the embellished chariots, the big Rath Yatra gets underway. The names of the chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra are Nandighosha, Taladhwaja, and Darpadalan respectively. Many followers are used to draw these chariots.

Yatra of Bahuda: At the conclusion of the ten-day festival, the three deities leave Gundicha Temple and embark on their trip back to Lord Jagannath Temple, known as the Bahuda Yatra. The return yatra will take place on June 28, 2023. On the tenth day of the Ashadha month, the return rath yatra begins.
