NEW DELHI: Minister of External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will embark on the Arab Republic of Egypt for a two-day visit on October 15. During this time, he plans to speak with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry about a variety of bilateral, regional, and global problems.

Notably, this will be his first bilateral visit to Egypt.

The EAM will meet with the Indian Diaspora in Egypt, especially students, and speak to a gathering of the Egyptian and Indian business community, according to an official release. Egypt and India have historically had cordial relations based on shared history and culture. This year, the two nations are commemorating the 75th anniversary of the start of diplomatic relations. Egypt has been asked to participate in the G-20 during India's Presidency in 2022–2023 as a "Guest Country."

One of the main areas of attention during the visit will be the promotion of bilateral trade, commerce, and investments with Egypt, one of India's top trading partners in Africa. During FY 2021–2022, bilateral trade between Egypt and India reached a record high of US$7.26 billion. Over USD 3.15 billion in Indian investment has been made in Egypt. In a variety of industries, including manufacturing, chemicals, energy, infrastructure, retail, etc., more than 50 Indian enterprises have an active presence in Egypt.

According to the MEA, the EAM's visit to Egypt will provide us a chance to evaluate all facets of our bilateral and multilateral relations and also to have frank discussions about a wide range of topics of shared interest with the Egyptian leadership. The visit offers an opportunity to strengthen cooperation and explore new initiatives in the bilateral partnership, the statement further read.
