NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will visit Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, and is expected to brief him on Sri Lanka's economic crisis and Pakistan's political turmoil.

Sri Lanka is in the midst of its worst economic crisis in its history. Due to a significant lack of foreign money, the island nation has been unable to pay for crucial imports, like fuel, resulting in power outages lasting up to 13 hours.

Following the resignation of Sri Lanka's cabinet on Sunday, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa asked all political parties, including the opposition, to accept ministerial positions and assist in the resolution of the country's current economic crisis on Monday.

Meanwhile, Pakistan is experiencing political unrest following Prime Minister Imran Khan's defiance of a coup attempt by calling new elections after dissolving Parliament.

It inflamed opposition rage and exacerbated the country's political predicament.  The opposition denounced the deed as treacherous and promised to fight back.
