Chandigarh: On the morning of January 21st, Jalandhar Police engaged in an encounter with two members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, resulting in critical injuries for both gangsters. The police arrested the wounded duo and promptly transported them to the hospital for treatment. During the exchange of fire, a police officer also sustained injuries.

The operation unfolded in the Gulmohar Colony of Jalandhar, falling within the jurisdiction of the Bhargo Camp police station. Videos circulating online depict the aftermath, with smashed window panels of the police vehicle and the apprehended gangsters being taken away by officials.

Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma led the early morning operation. Sharma, the former DIG of the Jalandhar Range, had previously played a significant role in the manhunt against Khalistani separatist 'Waris Punjab De' chief Amritpal Singh, who was arrested last year.

The two arrested gangsters affiliated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang were reportedly involved in various criminal activities, including murder, extortion, contract killing, and drug smuggling.

According to sources, a CIA team received specific intelligence prompting a raid at Nakha Wala Bagh near Gulmohar Colony in the early hours of the morning. During the raid, the police discovered a suspicious car parked on a road, leading to the encirclement of the vehicle. In response, the suspects inside the vehicle opened fire at the CIA team, injuring a police officer. In the ensuing exchange, both assailants were critically injured.

Recovered from the scene were weapons and other items associated with the criminal activities of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. CIA in-charge Surinder Singh Kamboj stated that the accused were wanted in multiple cases registered with the Jalandhar Commissionerate.

Lawrence Bishnoi, the notorious gangster, faces over two dozen criminal cases, including charges of targeted killing and extortion. His gang had previously issued threatening warnings to Bollywood actor Salman Khan regarding his alleged involvement in the black buck case.
