New Delhi: After the Centre removes Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, a number of changes are being seen. In Jammu and Kashmir, which is deprived of a wide range of laws and rights, all the laws that apply to the rest of India will now apply. There is a major law on education in which the Right to Education (RTE) could not be implemented in the State so far due to this section. The law will come into force after the removal of this section.

According to the law, all children between the ages of six and fourteen who study in government schools will get free education. Also, training will be given to all untrained teachers teaching in primary schools. At present, the law is applicable to all states in the country except Jammu and Kashmir. The HRD Ministry has started preparations after the passage of the bill to remove Article 370 from both the Houses of Parliament. The Ministry will soon issue necessary guidelines on the same after the President approves it.

Under the RTE Act, necessary assistance is provided to improve the quality of schools, including strengthening the infrastructure of schools. The RTE law was approved by the Government in 2009 to provide free education to children. It was not approved by the state Assembly due to the provisions of Section 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, which came into force in all the states at the same time. Home Minister Amit Shah also raised the issue in the House and the opposition parties were cordoned off.
