Srinagar: A local man died in an accidental firing allegedly by a policeman in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district, police said on Saturday. The policeman has been arrested. Political parties, including the National Conference (NC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), condemned the incident and demanded a "credible probe". The deceased, identified as Asif Ahmad Padroo, was accidentally shot at by a policeman's service rifle. Asif was later rushed to a hospital, where he died.
It has been told from the official Twitter handle of Kashmir Zone Police that, 'Today a policeman's rifle was accidentally fired while on duty in Pulwama, injuring one person. The man was immediately taken to the hospital by the police.' In another tweet, Kashmir Zone Police quoted the ADGP of Kashmir as saying, 'Later Asif Ahmed Padru died in the hospital. A case has been registered and the policeman has been arrested. Further investigation is on.'
Asif Ahmed, 25, was shot at 10 am. Officials have informed that the "erring" policeman has been arrested and cases have been registered against him under relevant sections. Police are investigating the cause of Asif's death. PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti expressed grief over Padroo's death. She said that Asif has lost his life in the name of ensuring security for the Home Minister.
