Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Friday released four more detained leaders. They were put under house arrest as a precaution since most of the provisions of Article 370 of the state of Jammu and Kashmir were removed and the state was divided into two union territories. The phased release of the detained leaders since August 5 last year has also given rise to speculation that a new political platform may emerge soon in Kashmir.

According to sources, after the withdrawal of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and dividing it into two union territories, apart from the new faces who have started politics, there is an effort to make this political option with some old leaders. A person engaged in this endeavor, on the condition of anonymity, said that 'Jammu and Kashmir People's Front' has also been discussed as the name of this new platform, although nothing has been decided yet.

Many big leaders of local political parties such as the National Conference, People's Democratic Party, and People's Conference are still in custody. These include leaders like former CM Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, and Mehbooba Mufti. Apart from this, around 24 other leaders including Sajjad Lone, Naeem Akhtar, and Shah Faisal are under house arrest in the MLA Hostel of Srinagar.
