Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir CM and President of National Conference Farooq Abdullah have been detained under Public Safety Act (PSA). A person arrested under the Public Safety Act can remain under arresst without trial for up to 2 years. Rajya Sabha MP and former CM Farooq Abdullah have been under house arrest since August 5 last month. But Abdullah has been booked under the PSA a day before on Sunday.
A day before the hearing on the Habeas Corpus petition of MDMK leader Vaiko in the top court, Farooq Abdullah was booked under the PSA. This has been done on behalf of the government so that, if there is no document during the hearing in the court, the embarrassment of proving the arrest of the leaders is justified.
Farooq Abdullah has been taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs to the house arrest at his residence and his residence has been declared as a Subsidiary Jail. He is forced to live in his own house, but during this time he cannot meet his friend or any other relative. Meanwhile, in the matter of detention of Farooq Abdullah, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the Central Government and asked to reply by 30 September.
