Ramban: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been closed for movement after a portion of the road was damaged near Ramban town in the central territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Efforts are being made to restore the only all-weather road connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country at the earliest.

According to a police official, Ramban is four km from the district headquarters. A part of the road near banana Bend collapsed on Sunday evening by hitting a concrete retaining wall. He said the officers of the Ramban district administration along with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials rushed to the spot. Traffic restoration work has been taken up at present. He said, the highway was opened only for traffic on Sunday after seven days of heavy snowfall, but incessant rains in the area caused several landslides.

He said that most of the vehicles going from Kashmir have reached their destination. About 100 vehicles have been stranded when the road was suddenly damaged near Ramban.  At present, the traffic from Srinagar to Jammu has been closed on Monday.
