New Delhi: Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister for Health, Chemicals, and Fertilizers said on Tuesday that the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana has made amazing growth over the past 8 years, and Janaushadhi Kendra has evolved into the nation's poor people's pharmacy.

Sharing details before media,  Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya said that there are 8,809 Janaushadhi outlets operating under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana are supplying each and every person with high-quality, reasonably priced medicines. The number of Janaushadhi Kendras has multiplied 100 times over the past eight years.

"There were about 80 Janaushdhi Kendra in various regions of the country in 2014, but by 2022, that number had increased to more than 8,800, a 100-fold rise," Mansukh Mandaviya said.

Under the condition of anonymity, a Chemical & Fertilizer Ministry official said that the Janaushdhi Kendra's average daily beneficiaries are more than 4.5 lakh people, and the Janaushdhi Kendra's monthly sales are greater than Rs 100 crore. The Janaushdhi Kendra's annual sales were Rs 893 crores in 2021–2022; the target for 2022–2023 is Rs 1,200 crores.

The target for medications this year (2022-23) would rise to 1800, the source said. "Since the year 2019, overall savings are estimated at Rs 15,360 crore, and the number of medicines accessible at shops are 1616 and 240 surgical and other products.

The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) was introduced by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Government of India in November 2008. Its goal is to make high-quality generic medications accessible to everyone at reasonable prices.

To sell generic medications at reasonable prices, special stores called Janaushadhi Kendras are opened as part of the programme. More than 8,800 Janaushadhi Kendras are currently operational throughout the nation. More than 1,616 medications and 240 surgical supplies are included in the PMBJP's product line.

The Department of Pharmaceuticals, Government of India, has established the BPPI (Bureau of Pharma Public Sector Undertakings of India). Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana Kendra will be used to coordinate the acquisition, supply, and marketing of generic medications on behalf of India with the help of all CPSUs.
