If you enjoy playing Mario Kart games, keep reading! Based on the heart rate increase, Mario Kart is the most stressful game, per a BonusFinder study. After just 30 minutes of play, the study found that the game can raise participants' heart rates by close to 33%.
"What the study highlights is quite remarkable, the old Nintendo formula is still irresistible to gamers and nothing can replace the jeopardy of a red shell on the last lap of a race," said Fintan Costello, Managing Director at BonusFinder. "Despite all the newcomers with improved graphics and increased spending."
"It's intriguing to find that the increase in heart rate is equal to doing light exercise in so many of these games, which may explain why it feels like it drains players of a lot of energy," he said.
The research revealed that Fortnite (28%) was the most stressful game, followed by Call of Duty (30%), Dark Souls (28%) and FIFA Soccer (31%) in the list of the top 5 most stressful games (27 percent).
The 30% increase in heart rate from playing the game is physically equivalent to taking a leisurely stroll, or about half of the ideal increase in heart rate when exercising. The study did find, however, that some video games could actually lower heart rates and stress levels.
The study found that Animal Crossing, The Sims, and Skyrim significantly lowered participant heart rates by up to 5% during a 30-minute session.
