Japan Airlines (JAL) and IndiGo have announced a new codeshare partnership, offering travelers more options and greater connectivity between Japan and India. This collaboration marks a significant step in enhancing the travel experience for customers of both airlines.

Strengthening Connectivity

This strategic partnership will allow Japan Airlines to enhance its presence in the Indian market by leveraging IndiGo’s extensive domestic network. Initially, the codeshare agreement will cover domestic routes in India connected to JAL-operated flights to and from Delhi and Bengaluru. JAL currently operates daily flights between Tokyo Haneda and Delhi, as well as thrice-weekly flights between Tokyo Narita and Bengaluru.

Expanding Reach Across India

Through this partnership, JAL will be able to offer connections to 14 major Indian cities, including Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Kochi, Coimbatore, Thiruvananthapuram, Tiruchirappalli, Pune, Lucknow, Varanasi, and Goa. This extensive network will facilitate seamless travel for passengers, allowing them to book their journeys on a single ticket and enjoy the high-quality service both airlines are known for.

Enhanced Travel Experience

IndiGo, India’s largest airline with over 60% market share, is renowned for its punctuality and excellent in-flight service. This partnership aims to provide JAL customers with an exceptional travel experience, extending the reach of JAL’s services within India.

Future Expansion Plans
The partnership is set to evolve, with plans for IndiGo to codeshare on JAL-operated flights in the future. This reciprocal arrangement will further enhance travel options for passengers of both airlines.

Leadership Perspectives

Abhijit Dasgupta, Senior Vice President of Network Planning and Revenue Management at IndiGo, expressed excitement about the partnership, highlighting the growing popularity of Japan among Indian travelers. He emphasized that this collaboration would offer seamless connectivity and support trade, commerce, and tourism between the two countries. Dasgupta stated, "This phase of the partnership expands the choices available to Japan Airlines customers for journeys to/from Japan, using IndiGo's extensive network in India. Over time, we intend to expand the scope of geographic and reciprocal coverage of this relationship to further grow travel opportunities for customers of both airlines."

Ross Leggett, Managing Executive Officer and Senior Vice President of Route Marketing at Japan Airlines, shared similar enthusiasm. He noted, "We are excited to announce our new codeshare partnership with IndiGo, having the largest domestic network in India, and offering high-quality service to customers. With the extensive network, travelers to/from India and Japan will be able to book their flight on one ticket and experience both IndiGo and JAL's exceptional service."

Both executives acknowledged the increasing demand for air travel between Japan and India, driven by India’s remarkable economic growth. They expressed confidence that this partnership would provide more options and a superior customer experience, benefiting travelers and contributing to the market’s growth.
