Tokyo: Amid worsening conflict between military factions, Japan's foreign ministry has increased the danger level in Sudan to level three and advised against all travel there.
Following armed clashes between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces in numerous areas of Sudan, including the capital Khartoum, the ministry made its decision.
The following regions have been classified as having a risk level three by the Japanese foreign ministry: Khartoum Province, North Kordofan Province, Red Sea Province (excluding the border area with Eritrea), Kassala Province (excluding the border area with Eritrea), Gadarev Province (excluding the border area with Ethiopia), Northern Province (Ribi), River Nile State, Gesira State, Sennar State (excluding the border area with South Sudan and Ethiopia), and White Nile State (excluding

Japan uses a four-level system for assessing travel risk, with level four being the current recommendation for Syria, Libya, and Yemen. Some regions have received ratings between levels one and three in other Arab nations.

To reduce the risk of terrorism or kidnapping, the foreign ministry has advised Japanese citizens to obtain the most recent security information from foreign safety websites.
