Bangalore: Karnataka Minister Satish Jarkiholi reiterated that he doesn't anticipate becoming the state's Chief Minister during the current tenure of the Congress-led government. He affirmed his intention to pursue the top post in 2028 and added, "I don't have a chance in this tenure. I will claim (the post) in 2028. For other leaders, it's their choice which year they want to claim in. My attempt is for 2028." These statements came following the Congress party's implementation of a gag order, restricting members from making statements about party operations, government affairs, or potential leadership changes.

As part of the order, no one, including Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy Shivakumar, is permitted to discuss the party's functioning, government matters, or prospective leadership changes beyond the next two-and-a-half years. This directive emerged from a breakfast meeting convened by Siddaramaiah at his residence on Sunday.

Notably, Satish Jarkiholi was conspicuously absent from the breakfast gathering, citing illness as the reason for his non-attendance.

On the same day, the PWD Minister highlighted the collective demand from various communities, including Dalits, to have one of their own leaders assume the role of Chief Minister in Karnataka, as reported. He emphasized that the final decision on this matter lies with the Congress high command.

Satish Jarkiholi hails from the Valmiki (ST) community and holds the position of Working President of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee. While acknowledging the Dalit community's desire for a Chief Minister from their ranks, the Minister underscored that the ultimate authority rests with the party in determining the outcome of this issue.
