After being overlooked last year, the name of famous shooter Jaspal Rana has been recommended by the Selection Committee constituted by the Ministry of Sports for the Dronacharya Award this year. The names of 13 coaches have been recommended. Rana's name was sent by the National Rifle Association of India last year, but he was not given the award, which was highly debated.
Along with this, the gold medal champion of the Asian Games Rana has prepared world-class shooters like Manu Bhaker, Saurabh Chaudhary and Aneesh Bhanwala. According to the sources, besides Rana, names of Hockey coach Ramesh Pathania, Jude Felix and Wushu coach Kuldeep Pathania have also been sent. The committee is also believed to have sent 15 names for the Dhyanchand Award.
The committee includes former cricketer Virender Sehwag, former hockey captain Sardar Singh, former Paralympic player Deepa Malik, former table tennis player Monalisa Barua Mehta, boxer Venkatesan Devarajan, sports commentator Anish Batavia and reporters Alok Sinha and Neeru Bhatia. It has Sandeep Pradhan, Director General of Sports Authority of India, Joint Secretary LS Singh and CEO of Target Olympic Podium from the Sports Ministry. Now this time his name has been selected.
