Musician Javed Akhtar had filed an intervention petition in the Bombay High Court. In that petition, he had claimed that Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut had concealed some facts from the court in a petition seeking speedy renewal of her passport. Not only that but he has also requested to intervene in the petition filed by the actress who has challenged the FIR lodged against her for allegedly violating the copyright of an author.
In fact, last month, Kangana Ranaut had also filed an interim petition. The petition had requested that the Regional Passport Authority be ordered to renew his passport as she is to go to Budapest, Hungary for the shoot of a film. His petition was heard on June 28 and additional solicitor general Anil Singh, on behalf of the Passport Authority, had told the court that "Kangana's plea is vague and it is not clear what criminal proceedings are pending against her.''
At the same time, his lawyer Rizwan Siddiqui had also told a bench of Justice SS Shinde that "only two FIRs were registered against the actress but criminal proceedings have not started against the actress in these primary cases.'' Further, the lawyer had said, "Bandra police had registered the first FIR in October last year to promote religious enmity through their tweets. The second FIR was lodged in March this year on the basis of a complaint by the author of the book 'Didda: Warrior Queen of Kashmir' who alleged that Kangana had announced the film on the subject of the book without his permission.''
In his intervention petition, for the time being, Javed Akhtar said, "He had filed a criminal defamation complaint against Kangana in November 2020 for the actress making comments against him in a TV interview and criminal proceedings are pending in the case.'' He also said Kangana Ranaut failed to disclose it before the court.
