On Wednesday, veteran diplomat Javed Ashraf has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to France. Ashraf is a 1991 batch Indian Foreign Service officer. He is currently the High Commissioner of India to Singapore. The Foreign Ministry said, 'He is expected to take up the post soon.' Ashraf will replace Vinay Mohan Quatra. This is an important position in view of the growing strategic relations between the two countries. Quatra has been appointed as India's ambassador to Nepal.

Javed Ashraf was appointed High Commissioner of India to Singapore in November 2016. Ashraf joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1991. He was also stationed at the Indian Embassy in Frankfurt and Berlin from 1993 to 1999. From 1999 to 2004, Javed Ashraf worked in the US Division of the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi. In 2004, he was appointed High Commissioner of Nepal where he remained posted till 2007.

Javed Ashraf served as a Counselor and Minister for Political Affairs in Washington DC from 2007 to 2010 and then headed the US Division in the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi from 2010 to 2012.
