Jharkhand: Couples fighting face to face from the same seat in Assembly Election

Ranchi: In the Jharkhand assembly elections, a couple is in the headlines. Both the husband and wife (Manish Kumar-Priyanka Singh) have contested against each other in the elections as an independent candidate from the Bhavnathpur assembly seat. It is worth noting that both of them had gone by the same vehicle for filing nominations and are also doing the election campaign as well.

Regarding contesting from the same seat, the husband and wife say that there is no political difference but it is a democratic right. According to the affidavit given to the Election Commission, there are no cases registered against both Priyanka and Manish. Together, they both have around eight lakh rupees in cash and about four lakh rupees ornaments in the name of the property. Apart from this, both have cultivated and non-cultivable land acquired as ancestral property.

While Priyanka is a BEd degree holder, Manish is also a graduate. Both have described agriculture and private business as a means of earning. Manish and Priyanka say that "We are both contesting against each other, but not to defeat each other. We are simultaneously campaigning and seeking votes to serve the people."
